The Show
The Story
Corie and Paul are newlyweds in a tiny New York apartment, learning about marriage and each other. To complicate things, Corie tries to match her mother up with the dashing neighbor upstairs, while her new husband gets ready to handle his first case as a new lawyer. Barefoot in the Park is one of Neil Simon's first round of hits on Broadway, and is a tremendously funny and fresh story about how much work it takes to have true love.
The Characters
Corie Bratter:
Early 20's, in love with Paul, life, and curious about everything.
Paul Bratter:
Mid-20's, new lawyer, a bit too stuffy and proper
Mrs. Ethel Banks:
late 40's to 50's, Corie's mother, a widow who doesn't get around much
Victor Velasco:
late 50's, the dashing, Bohemian neighbor into art, foreign foods, strong drink and romance
Telephone man:
Any age — good character part
Delivery man:
fragile, elderly, feeble—no lines, but a great 5 minutes!
