| FIRST
ANNUAL CABARET SOIREE |
 |
Mark
your calendars! September 9th will be a truly
enchanted evening as CCT hosts our First Annual
Cabaret Soiree. The fundraising event is made
possible through the generosity of Patience
and Jim Huntwork who have donated the use of
their home and luscious grounds for the event.
Their magnificent garden was recently featured
in Phoenix Home & Garden as one of the
most beautiful in Phoenix. The park-like setting
will serve as a magical backdrop to the show
stopping entertainment provided by the Divas
of the Desert. For those of you unfamiliar
with the group, it is composed of CCT friends
and Valley performers Kristen Drathman, Jenee
Prince, Stephanie Likes, Linsey Maxson and
Diane Gardner (substituting for Tregoney Shepherd
who has been called back to Broadway to reprise
her role of Madame Thernadier in Phantom of
the Opera!) The Divas will be accompanied by
CCT’s Artistic Director, Steve Hilderbrand,
Lee Gendvilas and Scott Hay. You will want
to bring your friends and checkbooks to this
elegant Garden Party. In addition to divine
food, drink and entertainment, an incredible
bevy of must- have and wish-list items have
been arranged for a silent auction. Tickets
may be purchased for a mere $50 per person
donation either online through CCT’s
website www.cctstage.org or
by calling the box office.
Please
help support CCT by attending this superb event
and donating generously!

| Announcing
our 2006-2007 Season |
 |
It’s
been an interesting summer for CCT.
A few months ago, CCT’s 2006-2007 Season
was announced. It was an exciting roster of
shows including Neil Simon’s Lost
in Yonkers, Ernest Thompson’s On
Golden Pond, Dan Goggins’ Nunsense, 2
cabarets and a summer youth production of Meredith
Wilson’s The Music Man, Jr. Despite
our best efforts, a national tour of On
Golden Pond has been booked into the
Orpheum next spring causing an unanticipated
restriction of rights in the show. This in
turn, caused a re-examination of the season
as a whole. The result is a new and even stronger
offering: Steel
Magnolias, October 13-28, 2006 You’ve
laughed and cried with these quirky Southern
belles in the hit film version starring Sally
Field, Dolly Parton, Julia Roberts, Darryl
Hannah, Olympia Dukkakis and Shirley MacLaine – now
CCT offers you the chance to experience these
outrageous characters (not the actresses!) “up
close and personal.” The action is set
in Truvy's beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana,
where all the ladies who are "anybody" come
to have their hair done. Helped by her eager
new assistant, Annelle (who is not sure whether
or not she is still married), the outspoken,
wise-cracking Truvy dispenses shampoos and
free advice to the town's rich curmudgeon,
Ouiser, ("I'm not crazy, I've just been
in a bad mood for forty years"); an eccentric
millionaire, Miss Clairee, who has a raging
sweet tooth; and the local social leader, M'Lynn,
whose daughter, Shelby (the prettiest girl
in town), is about to marry a "good ole
boy." Filled with hilarious repartee
and not a few acerbic but humorously revealing
verbal collisions, the play moves toward tragedy
when, in the second act, the spunky Shelby
(who is a diabetic) risks pregnancy and forfeits
her life. The sudden realization of their mortality
affects the others, but also draws on the underlying
strength—and love—which give the
play, and its characters, the special quality
to make them truly touching, funny and marvelously
amiable company in good times and bad. The
Musical of Musicals (The Musical!), March 9-24,
2007 Fresh
from its long New York run, Central Community
Theatre is pleased to present the Arizona premier
of The Musical of Musicals (The Musical!) .
What’s the show about? MUSICALS, of course!
In this hilarious satire of musical theatre,
one story becomes five delightful musicals,
each written in the distinctive style of a
different master of the form, from Rodgers
and Hammerstein to Stephen Sondheim.
The basic plot: June is an ingénue who
can't pay the rent and is threatened by her
evil landlord. Will the handsome leading man
come to the rescue? The variations are: a Rodgers & Hammerstein version,
set in Kansas in August, complete with a dream
ballet; a Sondheim version, featuring
the landlord as a tortured artistic genius
who slashes the throats of his tenants in revenge
for not appreciating his work; a Jerry Herman version
set as a splashy star vehicle; an Andrew
Lloyd Webber version, performed as a rock
musical with themes borrowed from Puccini;
and a Kander & Ebb version, set
in a Chicago speakeasy. This show is an uproarious
comic valentine to musical theatre you won’t
want to miss! Nunsense,
May 4-19, 2007 Convent
cook, Sister Julia (Child of God) accidentally
feeds her order tainted vichyssoise resulting
in mass (pardon the pun) casualties. Not having
enough money to bury all their dearly departed,
the “left overs” are stored in
the walk-in refrigerator until the rest of
the money can be raised. Unfortunately, the
bodies can’t stay there long as a Health
Department inspection is about to occur. What
to do, what to do? Put on a show! And that’s
exactly was the Little Sisters of Hoboken do.
Winner of four Outer Critics Circle Awards including Best
Off Broadway Musical in its original
New York production, this hilarious international
hit was revived in New York with a male cast
and retitiled Nunsense A Men! It
has also spawned another sequel – Meshuganuns! – which
is set on a cruise ship filled with predominately
Jewish travelers. It would be a sin to miss
this show. Cabaret & Cafe'
Series CCT’s Cabaret & Café Series continues
with shows scheduled for November 17-18,
2006 and April 13-14, 2007. While
we are not yet able to announce the details,
be assured that something new and very exciting
is in the works. Summer
2007 Finally,
CCT’s long-anticipated “Youth
Summer Camp” will get underway in
June, 2007. This program is an ambitious effort
on the part of CCT to live up to its mission
of fostering a love of the arts and mentoring
beginning actors and children with interests
in the technical side of theater and will be
accomplished through a series of classes, workshops
and “on the job training.” The
program will culminate in a production of The
Music Man, Jr.
